The JetCat Hotcat
The JetCat Hotcat is now available as a complete helicopter turbine package and includes a JetCat PHT3 turbine power unit, all mechanics and body kit. Only the radio control system is required to complete.

The body is epoxy moulded in White with a carbon canopy and incorporates moulded in twin fuel cells directly on the CG which have a total capacity of 2.2 ltrs.

Many of the mechanical parts are machined in Aluminium and have an anodised finish.

An optional hydraulic operated rotor brake system is also available.

The entire contents of the HotCat kit package are shown below.

The Worlds First Production Model Helicopter Turbine
JetCat PHT3 Turbine
The Perfect System:
  • Real turbine power with enormous power reserves for large helicopters
  • Selectable rotor direction (CW or CCW)
  • Rotor decoupled from turbine via centrifugal clutch and rotor stops at turbine idle.
  • Optional active rotor braking.
  • Original JetCat autostart system: Fully automatic turbine start up by a command from the R/C transmitter without external connections.
  • Service friendly silent running toothbelt drive in the primary gear stages.
  • Special shaped gear mechanism in the final gear stage for silent operation and secure power transmission.
  • Complete package: unpack, install, fly!
  • Well proven turbine system with more than 1000 units produced.
  • Precision ceramic ball bearings for low maintenance.
  • Screen in front of the turbine inlet avoids FOD (foreign object damage) of the compressor and turbine.
  • Special CAD designed turbine wheel for maximum shaft power with minimum residual thrust.
  • Original JetCat "Jet-tronic" ECU RPM regulator for constant rotor speed and fully programmable system. Turbine starts without compressed air or fans. Automatic cooling when the turbine is shut down.
  • RS232 serial interface for linking to a computer
  • Plain text display of the current running parameters for example: exhaust gas temperature, RPM, fuel consumption, remaining fuel, last run time, total run time, battery voltage, turbine condition, reason for last shut down, etc.

Display and programming device (GSU):

The ground support unit (GSU) features an illuminated 2 lines by 16 character alphanumeric LCD display. In addition there are 10 switches and 4 control LED's. The GSU can be connected to the ECU for monitoring the turbine, displaying statistical information or to change running parameters. All parameters are displayed in clear text through a series of menus.Running parameters include: Exhaust gas temperature, RPM, Pump voltage, etc. Statistical data includes: Total fuel consumption, total turbine time, maximum RPM, number of starts, run time, fuel consumption, battery voltage, etc.

Example of a turbine start-up:

After charging batteries and filling the fuel tank, put the helicopter at the start position. Switch on R/C transmitter & receiver, set the throttle on the R/C transmitter first to OFF, then to the full throttle position, turbine is now started fully automatically and stabilises at idle RPM (rotor is not turning yet !). As soon as the throttle stick is brought to the idle position the turbine control is given to the pilot. Now set the throttle to maximum. The main rotor is now accelerated slowly (time programmable) and automatically stabilised at the programmed RPM value. Through the enormous power reserves of the turbine ( 5kw) RPM variations of the rotor can not be seen even at extreme load changes (e.g. via the pitch control).
